Jackleg Drill
A jackleg drill is a lightweight pneumatic rock drill mounted on an air-powered pusher leg, used for horizontal and inclined drilling in underground headings too narrow for a rig. Vikay supplies jackleg drills from India, including the VK S215 and VK S250.
The jackleg, known in Spanish-speaking mining regions as the perforadora jackleg, pairs a hand-held drill with a telescopic air leg that carries the machine's weight and applies feed force. One operator can therefore collar and drill a full round in a narrow drive, ramp or crosscut where a jumbo cannot reach.
It is the standard tool for development drilling, tunnelling, narrow-vein mining, quarrying and civil rock excavation. Feed pressure is controlled independently of percussion, so the operator can ease off on soft or broken ground and push hard in competent rock.
