Wagon Drill

Wagon Drill

A wagon drill is a mobile surface drilling rig that carries a pneumatic drill on a wheeled or tracked chassis for blast-hole drilling in quarries and open-cast mines. Vikay supplies wagon drills and crawler rigs from India in both top-hammer and down-the-hole configurations.

Surface blast-hole drilling divides into two methods, and the choice sets the whole rig. In top-hammer drilling the percussion unit sits on the rig and transmits energy down the rod string, which is fast and economical in shallower holes. In down-the-hole drilling the hammer travels at the bottom of the hole immediately behind the bit, so energy is not lost through rod joints and hole straightness holds up in deeper drilling.

Vikay supplies both: wagon drills and crawler drilling rigs in top-hammer form, and wagon and crawler rigs in DTH form for larger diameters and deeper holes. Typical duties are quarry bench drilling, open-cast mining, road and dam construction and foundation work.

Aftermarket parts for Atlas Copco BVB 25, AirROC T25 and AirROC D40 rigs are listed under Atlas Copco Wagon Drill parts, and DTH hammers and bits under Mining Equipment Accessories.

FAQS

What is the difference between top hammer and DTH drilling?
- In top hammer drilling the percussion unit stays on the rig and drives the rod string. In DTH drilling the hammer runs down the hole behind the bit, so less energy is lost through joints and holes stay straighter at depth.

Which method should I choose?
- Top hammer generally wins on speed and cost in shallower, smaller-diameter holes. DTH is preferred for deeper holes, larger diameters and where hole straightness matters, such as pre-split and foundation work.

Do you supply parts for Atlas Copco wagon drills?
- Yes. Aftermarket parts for the BVB 25, AirROC T25 and AirROC D40 are stocked under Atlas Copco Wagon Drill parts.
